On the upstairs floor, where the bedrooms used to be, we have opened the museum to display the characters from “Sa rondaia” made by Pere Pujol, a sculptor from Artà.

This exhibition brings the heroes from the rondalles to life: Gustí Lladre, Joan des nas de dos pams and Estel d’or. Demons, witches and fairies fill the rooms of this typically Majorcan-style house.

At the staircase leading to the upper floor, sa rondaia begins with the typical phrase of all fairy tales: Això era i no era…(Once upon a time). In the front we see the rondaia of “Pere Poca Por” (the fearless Pere) who had emerged victorious from a fierce battle against the Moors.

On this floor there are four halls, and the arrangement of Pere Pujol’s work has been made according to the classification of fairy tales of the Danish folklorist Thompson. As a result, on the left, in the hall number 1, there is an example from the magical tales and hall 2 shows tales with a number of animals that appear in some other rondalles. However, if you now go into the hall 3, you will find two of the most macabre horror tales. The hall number 4 houses religious rondalles; to the right we see Saint Peter with the keys to heaven in his hand.

Here ends our walk through the magical universe of SA RONDAIA DE PERE PUJOL; we hope you enjoyed it and that these tales which, during generations, the grandparents had told their grandchildren, might not be forgotten.

May these figures, created by Pere Pujol with limited resources and a lot of imagination, encourage children and adults alike to read our folk tales.

Let the magic of the Majorcan rondalles carry you away…

THE BLUE LIGHT
All rondaies repeat at the beginning and at the end a few sentences, and when for instance people are looking for a palace, a house or a castle, they will, in all fairy tales, see a blue light which leads them to that place. Therefore, here also you can see blue lights marking the stones behind you, below the dimonis. The blue light signified that in the distance there was a place that could accommodate the wanderers.
